Draft State Implementation Plan: Exceptional Events Demonstration

Notice is hereby given that the Director of the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (Ohio EPA), as required by 40 CFR 58.14, is making the draft of Ohio’s Exceptional Events Demonstration for 2023 and 2025 PM2.5 Episodes in Lucas County, OH available for a 30-day public comment period. All submitted exceptional events demonstrations are subject to approval by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA). The draft exceptional events demonstration establishes that PM2.5 episodes in 2023 and 2025 in Lucas County were driven by smoke from wildfires in Canada and/or Fourth of July holiday celebration-related fireworks displays traveling to and impacting the ambient air quality at the Eastside Pump St (39-095-1003) monitoring site in Lucas County, Ohio. Ohio EPA is requesting the exclusion of ambient PM2.5 concentration data measured at the Eastside Pump St monitoring site in Lucas County on the specified dates, from regulatory determinations, including calculations of PM2.5 annual design values.
