The Black River is proposed to be removed from U.S. EPA’s list of Great Lakes Area of Concern (AOC). Written comments will be accepted about the proposed removal, and a Draft Delisting Report is posted on lakeerie.ohio.gov.
A public meeting will be hosted to review the Draft Delisting Report on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, from 5:00-6:30 pm at the Lorain County Metro Parks, Sunset Terrace at Lakeview Park 1800 West Erie Ave, Lorain, Ohio.
The Black River AOC Advisory Committee originally identified nine Beneficial Use Impairment (BUI) to be addressed. With the final impairment now removed, the Black River has met all the environmental goals needed to proceed with the delisting process. The Ohio Lake Erie Commission and Ohio EPA will continue to work with local, state, federal, Tribal, and Canadian partners to complete the remaining steps of formal delisting after the public comment period.
