Ohio EPA is seeking public comment on two applications regarding a proposed wastewater treatment plant. The Village of Kelleys Island plans to construct a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) at 115 Chappel Street. The proposed facility would discharge an average day flow of 144,000 gallons per day gallons to Lake Erie. The proposed WWTP requires two permits from Ohio EPA: a Permit to Install and a wastewater discharge permit, also called a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES).New or increased discharges of pollutants into waters of the state must undergo anantidegradation review to identify different discharge alternatives, evaluate social and economic benefits, and ensure the receiving water maintains its existing uses.
