RULES: Antidegradation (OAC 3745-1-05) - Interested Party Review

What is the purpose of the Antidegration Rule?

The Antidegradation Rule requires Ohio EPA to review any new or additional point sources that discharge pollution to surface waters. This must be assessed to maintain and protect the current beneficial uses of Ohio’s surface waters. Point sources are individual and stationary sources, such as a pipe discharging wastewater.

Are there any changes proposed?

Yes, Ohio EPA is proposing two key changes. 1. Adding a reference to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ (ODNR) dynamic threatened and endangered species lists to replace the static list of species currently in the rule. 2. Adding new stream segments to the lists of High Quality Waters (streams and rivers with very good water quality). Ohio EPA is also proposing some minor formatting changes.
